Single skinned walls are only suitable for height of  450mm

Anything higher should be double skinned for strength and stability. Walls higher than 1.2 metres must be well-planned and assessed by a structural engineer or a experienced builder, who will take into account ground conditions and other factors like is it being used for retaining.

Do I need planning permission for my wall!

Planning permission is required, if the wall is to be over 1 metre high and next to a public road or pedestrian path; or over 2-metres high elsewhere. Independent, freestanding retaining walls may not require building regulation approval; however,

Any walls must be structurally sound and well maintained, for more information on planning permission for garden walls contact your local planning office.
